2026 Write for Rights Letter-Writing Guide | Pre-register Now

Every year, people around the world take part in Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign. They write letters in solidarity with people whose human rights have been violated, and to authorities with the power to bring about change, calling on them to address injustice.

This year, we have put together a letter-writing guide specifically for Hongkongers. Whether you plan to write a letter on your own, get together with friends, or organize a letter-writing activity during Christmas, New Year or other gatherings, the guide will walk you through the process, from learning about the cases to writing and submitting your letters.

A single letter may not bring immediate change, but it can remind those receiving it that people far away still care about them and have not forgotten them.

We look forward to writing alongside you this year.

What’s Inside the Guide

1. What is Write for Rights?

Learn about the origins of this global human rights campaign, how it works, and how a letter can make a difference to someone whose human rights have been violated.

2. Case Profiles

The guide introduces this year’s Write for Rights cases: Owen Chow, Gwyneth Ho and Leung Kwok-hung from Hong Kong; Daria Egereva from Russia; Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha from Pakistan; and Marwa Arafa from Egypt.

Each case is presented in a concise, accessible format that you can read aloud at an event or print and share with participants.

3. How to Write and Submit Your Letters

Find out what to write, what to avoid, and what to keep in mind when drafting your letters. We will also guide you step by step through the online submission process, including important safety considerations when uploading your letters.

4. Risk Assessment

We understand that, for some Hongkongers, taking part in a letter-writing campaign may not be a decision made without concern. The guide provides a simple risk assessment framework to help organisers and participants consider the potential risks before deciding how they wish to take part.

Write for Rights Online Information Session

We plan to hold an online information session in December 2026 to introduce this year’s Write for Rights cases, ways to participate and important considerations when writing letters. Follow us on social media and check our website for further details about the session and the latest campaign updates.

Guide Release Date

The guide is expected to be sent out by email in late November.
